Combat Sports – The Vaccines Album Review

★★★★☆

On their fourth album now, The Vaccines sound as good as ever. Even after losing their drummer Pete Robertson they still can produce, in fact they’ve taken a different direction from ‘English Graffiti’. I mean don’t get me wrong it was a decent album, but they’ve gotten even better.

The majority of ‘Combat Sports’ is the old Vaccines back, with their powerful indie rock songs it’s most definitely a heavy record. Songs such as ‘I Can’t Quit’, ‘Nightclub’ and ‘Surfing in the Sky’ show that the record has taken a completely different route.

Their is still some melodic soft songs on the album such as ‘Put It On A T-Shirt’ and ‘Maybe (Luck of the Draw)’ which shows the other side of this immense band. If that takes your fancy, and it does slow down the album a little.

‘Combat Sports’ has most definitely shown that The Vaccines still are one of Britain’s most exciting bands around.
